The brewery was founded in 1985 by musician Kaspar Peterson. He stumbled upon the building that formerly housed the Municipal Bathhouse Funen. An extensive water supply and drainage system was already in place there. Ideal for brewing craft beer! The adjacent windmill 'De Gooyer' is a striking landmark, but it does not belong to the brewery. IJwit was launched in 2002. At the time, it was not yet common to release an India Pale Ale. Therefore, Brouwerij 't IJ chose to release a Witbier. And with great success! This beer is one of the brewery's most consumed beers and is available at many hospitality venues during the summer months. You can also come and taste all the IJ beers in the brewery's tasting room.
